Mercyhurst Prep vs. Bedford

Saturday, 5 p.m., Mars High School

Records: Mercyhurst Prep 17-5-0; Bedford 19-0-0

How they got there: Mercyhurst Prep defeated Avonworth 2-1 in overtime, and Bedford defeated Hopewell 4-2 in PIAA first round.

Outlook: Mercyhurst Prep and Bedford met in the PIAA semifinals last fall with the Lakers pulling out a 1-0 win to earn a trip to Hershey. Yeshim Onipede, who is currently a senior leader for Mercyhurst Prep, scored with 10 minutes, 39 seconds left for the only score of the game. Ashley Van Damia recorded the shutout in net for the Lakers. Both are back looking for another trip to Hershey. The Lakers have used an impressive defense to win 17 matches this season, including the back line of Jillian Ball, Claire Johnson, Meghan Chimera and Lauren Fletcher in front of Van Damia. … Bedford took out WPIAL powerhouse Hopewell Tuesday. Kiley Horne scored for the Bison before Jenna Brown made it 2-0 at the half. Brown scored her second goal and Amber Thomas added one late to lead Bedford to the win. Lindsay Mowry has been a standout in net for the Bison.

Villa Maria vs. South Park

Saturday, 2 p.m., Slippery Rock High School

Records: Villa Maria 17-5-0; South Park 20-2-0

How they got there: Villa Maria defeated Karns City 5-0, and South Park defeated Somerset 3-0 in PIAA first round.

Outlook: Villa Maria has beaten South Park in their past four PIAA playoff meetings. South Park has just two losses this season, including a season-opening 2-1 loss to Mercyhurst Prep in the South Hills Classic. The Eagles have put together three straight shutouts, including a 3-0 win over Avonworth in the WPIAL semifinals, a 1-0 win over Hopewell in the WPIAL championship and a 3-0 win over Somerset in the PIAA first round Tuesday. Freshman Nora Ozimek scored her first varsity goal in the 1-0 win over Hopewell off an assist by Haleigh Finale, who has 41 goals this season. South Park won its fifth WPIAL championship before beating Somerset on Tuesday. … Villa Maria has won five of its past six matches, including a 5-0 win over Karns City. Sarah Fails, Abby Grychowski, Kailey Orlando, Cambrie Longo and Ella Raimondi all had goals for the Victors.

Wilmington vs. Freedom

Saturday, noon, Slippery Rock High School

Records: Wilmington 19-2-1; Freedom 21-1-0

How they got there: Wilmington defeated Bishop McCort 1-0, and Freedom defeated Rockwood 7-0 in PIAA first round.

What’s at stake: Winner plays Shady Side Academy-Bentworth winner Tuesday in PIAA semifinals.
