Welcome back to Auburn Arena, where Auburn (16-8, 5-6 SEC) fell to Ole Miss (17-7, 7-4) in the second meeting of the season between the two teams, 60-55. The Rebels won the first matchup, 82-67, last month in Oxford, Miss., to open SEC play and thus swept the season series.
Below is a blow-by-blow recap of the game, which saw Chuma Okeke turn in a career-high 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way on a night that the Tigers’ entire backcourt struggled.
FINAL: Ole Miss 60, Auburn 55
— Harper misses a 3-pointer, and then Ole Miss stretches the lead to five on a pair of free throws by Tyree with 12.1 to play. Ole Miss 60-55.
— Okeke with a block from the help-side, and then Auburn forces the turnover. Still down three with 46 seconds to play.
— Ole Miss turnover on a travel. Auburn ball down three with 90 seconds to play.
— Davis misses a pair of free throws for Ole Miss. Auburn ball down five with about 2 minutes to play. Okeke then fouled on a drive to the rim. He makes both free throws and now has a career-high 23 points to go with 11 boards. Ole Miss calls timeout with 1:40 to go, leading 58-55.
— Auburn forces a turnover on the ensuing inbound, but an Okeke 3-pointer rims out. Davis gets a bucket in the paint, and Okeke answers with a layup. Still a five-point game.
— Bryce Brown with his first 3-pointer of the night. Gets Auburn within five, 56-51, with 3:24 to play.
— Ole Miss 54, Auburn 48 | 3:49 (under-4 timeout): Ole Miss went six-plus minutes without a field goal before Breein Tyree drains a 3-pointer. Samir Doughty answers with a corner 3 to make it a three-point game again, but Terence Davis then drains a 3 of his own.
— Horace Spencer bailed out on a tip-in attempt from the inbound with the shot clock expiring. He splits the free throws, and it’s a three-point game with five minutes to play.
— Jared Harper draws a foul and drains a pair of free throws. It’s again a four-point game with 5:55 to play.
— Chuma Okeke, Bryce Brown and Horace Spencer checking back in with 6:06 to play. Auburn trails Ole Miss, 48-42.
— Purifoy can’t complete the three-point play, misses the free throw.
— Ole Miss 46, Auburn 42 | 7:23 (under-8 timeout): Danjel Purifoy corrals a pass in transition from Anfernee McLemore and gets the basket, plus the foul. Auburn is within four, and Purifoy will get a free throw coming out of the timeout.
— J’Von McCormick splits a pair of free throws, and then Bryce Brown misses a 3-pointer after the offensive rebound. Brown, Harper and Doughty are a combined 2-of-16 from the field tonight.
— Chuma Okeke with a pair of offensive rebounds on one possession, then gets fouled on a putback. He makes both free throws to get Auburn within five with 10 minutes to play. Okeke has a double-double.
— Ole Miss 42, Auburn 37 | 11:32 (under-12 timeout): Naylor with a 3-pointer to end Auburn’s 8-0 run. Okeke then picks up a foul.
— Okeke with a dunk. He has Auburn’s last 10 points, including an 8-0 run that has the Tigers within two, 39-37, with 12:11 to play. Timeout Ole Miss.
— A 3-pointer by Okeke gets Auburn to within 39-35 with 13 minutes to play. Okeke now with a team-high 15.
— Okeke completes the three-point play, and it’s a seven-point game.
— Ole Miss 39, Auburn 31 | 15:13 (under-16 timeout): Ole Miss pushes its lead back to double digits on a 6-0 run before Okeke goes hard in the paint for a layup, plus the foul. Harper currently with six turnovers and just one assist while shooting 1-of-6 from the field.
— Okeke with a layup, then Auburn forces a shot-clock violation. It’s a four-point game with 17:38 to go in the second half.
— Auburn currently has more turnovers (nine) than made baskets (eight) with 18:51 to go in the game. Harper, who has five turnovers, makes three free throws to get Auburn within six, 33-27.
HALFTIME: Ole Miss 30, Auburn 24
— Auburn shot just 32 percent in the first half, led by Chuma Okeke’s seven points and six rebounds. Jared Harper and Bryce Brown with five points each despite combining to shoot 2-of-11 from the field with five turnovers. Ole Miss led by Shuler’s 12 and Tyree’s 10.
— Ole Miss 27, Auburn 19 | 2:19 (under-4 timeout): Shuler and Tyree killing Auburn right now. They have 22 of Ole Miss’ 27 points as the Rebels get a 10-point lead before a layup by Okeke on the other end (plus the foul).
— Okeke with a 3-pointer. Auburn now 2-of-6 from beyond the arc after an 0-for-4 start.
— Shuler answers back with a 3-pointer and then a dunk off a steal. Ole Miss lead back to eight.
— Jared Harper with Auburn’s first 3-pointer of the night. Ole Miss calls a timeout as Auburn cuts it to 17-14 with 6:02 to play. Ole Miss hasn’t scored in 2:05 and has missed its last four shots.
— Out of the timeout, Malik Dunbargets a block on one end, pinning the ball against the backboard, and then Chuma Okeke follows with a dunk on the other to end Ole Miss’ run.
— Ole Miss 17, Auburn 9 | 7:42 (under-8 timeout): Tyree with another 3-pointer, and then Auburn commits a turnover. Ole Miss is on an 8-0 run. Auburn is 3-of-16 from the field, including 0-for-4 from deep.
— Ole Miss now on a 5-0 run following a layup by Tyree and a 3-pointer from Shuler. It’s 14-9 with 8:48 to play in the half.
— Wiley splits a pair of free throws, and Dunbar ties the game with a putback off the missed free throw. It’s 9-9. Anfernee McLemore checking back in for Wiley now.
— Ole Miss 9, Auburn 6 | 11:54 (under-12 timeout): Auburn is 2-for-11 from the field. Ole Miss is 3-of-13. This is an ugly game.
— Malik Dunbar, Danjel Purifoy and Austin Wiley check in as Bryce Brown ties the game with a pair of free throws.
— Spencer with a tip-in on an offensive rebound to give Auburn a 4-3 lead, its first of the night. Breein Tyree answers with a 3-pointer, though, to put the Rebels back out front.
— Auburn gets a shot-clock violation coming out of the timeout, followed by a defensive stop and then a post-up by Horace Spencer at the 15-minute mark to get Auburn on the board.
